color Outside the lines

“Mommy, does it matter if my picture is perfect?”

“Of course not dear! Just do your best & it will be wonderful! ART is meant to be done YOUR way! It’s not like math…”

“But brother said I have to use the right colors, he said I did it all wrong!”

“Well, brother doesn’t know that YOUR picture is going to go on my fridge & I want it to be done YOUR way! Besides, God gave you a different imagination than brother ON PURPOSE! If He only wanted pictures done brother’s way He wouldn’t have given you different ideas – but since He DID, He must like your pictures TOO!”

“Yeah, that brother just doesn’t KNOW, ‘cuz he’s not God!”

Wes telling his brothers "PAINT EVERYWHERE!"

This morning’s conversation with my youngest son Wesley reminded me of these great pics – the first time we gave him a paint brush and let him loose, He was only 2, but already knew he was born to be FREE! ~ If God intended for us all to conform to be just like our neighbors, why would he tell us “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Rom. 12:2) I am so grateful for all my boys, but today – especially loving that God blessed us with Wesley who has been teaching & encouraging his big brothers to lighten up & be creative while trusting God in every moment, he has never known a moment of fear or ever doubted that he was exactly how God intended him to be…

Wes has been a living example of “Free to be ME!” since the day he was born!

"Mommy, I messy now!" (Wes)

Joey (Mr. Clean) finally "tried" getting messy & painting 'off paper'!

So simple, yet so deep. Remember friends, God made you special & He loves you very much… JUST the way you ARE! He made you that way – ON PURPOSE!

  1. Yeah Wes! Keep on being you. Some of us grown-ups have to work hard at being ourselves. You are a GREAT example! 🙂

P.S. I think you are a lot like your Mommy. And her ability to just be who God made her to be is one of my favorite things about her!

  2. Oh how the young teach us!! Thank you Lord for blessing up with Wesley!! Wesley is the most perfect Wesley and God’s light shines through him!! Thank you for the lesson today as we always need to be reminded that what is not ‘Perfect’ to us is Perfect in God’s eyes!!

  3. Wesley’s the cutest & sweetest 6 yr old I know! His Nana should know, and she loves him very much!
    Rock On Wesley!!!

  4. I love all these pictures and especially seeing / remembering just how little they were then, yet still such BIG concepts were already being inplanted. God’s plans and purposes start young! 😉

  5. I LOVE all these pics too! Such a great reminder that those things that we grow into, really started when we were very small…. In fact, when we were a glimmer of a smile in the Father’s eye! His plans for us are so good & so great! Far greater than we could ever hope or ask or even imagine!!!
