not quite Broken {new adventures}

mission accomplishedI never thought the next Hong Kong ER tour would be for myself! But after falling & hurting my ankle on Tuesday, I took a ride in an ambulance because I couldn’t walk to get a taxi. (Turns out you’re NOT supposed to try to walk on a foot that is completely ‘asleep’ – it can lead to stepping on you ANKLE instead, which leads to a BAD fall!) At the ER, my wonderful husband arrived to ensure they took good care of me. Thanks to him & his Cantonese skills, it only took 4hrs to get through instead of 10! Xrays did not show any fractures, so the Dr. is saying it’s a bad sprain. Which I keep hearing is actually worse… 😦
splintYesterday, Mark took me back to get a splint & some crutches (they don’t use the under arm kind here – only the ones that look like arm braces). I also found it very interesting how none of the Dr.s or nurses really gave me ANY  ‘at home’ instructions on how to help myself heal. Today, I am actually SUPER THANKFUL for all those tedious hours I spent in countless American Red Cross 1st Aid & CPR classes during my years of Childcare Work. (R.I.C.E.=Rest Ice Compress Elevate) Now I’m resting with my leg up on pillows & trying to figure out how to get the kids to help me make bread for Wesley. (LOL) I’m also grateful to have 4 loving guys around to take care of me & bring me sweets when I’m out of commission!
50s broken ankleI was talking with a friend in California today, we both agreed that every set-back can be an opportunity for growth. Every mom has many things to do this time of year, & with my injury, I will have to ask for help. It will be another Christmas adventure, last year’s excitement was due to it being our 1st month in HK. This year looks like a perfect time to create an atmosphere of family unity & teamwork! Everyone can help to get Mom’s Christmas list of errands/activities checked off & when we sip our Hot Cocoa with Marshmallows & Cinnamon Rolls while reading the Christmas Story – we will KNOW that we worked together to make it all happen this year! Always an adventure full of old & new family traditions on this journey with Team Kwong!
broken ankle crutches cartoonIn realizing that my ankle was ‘not quite broken’ – it made me think of myself in Jesus’ hands. He takes us in & fixes all our hurts & broken pieces, he never sees us as broken junk to be thrown out with the trash, but as hidden treasures that might be found & restored to glory… Often we feel broken or lost, but He says “I know you & I love you – just the way you are!” These words have encouraged me today:

You have searched me, Lord,
and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways…
You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain…
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well…
How precious to me are your thoughts,[a] God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand—
when I awake, I am still with you…
Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting. ~Psalm 139

    • I know, crazy! I brought it up myself, “So… I should ice it for 20m at a time & keep it elevated… Riiiiiight???!” – “oh, sure, that WOULD help…” haha! – Praise the Lord for my Girl/Boy Scout & Red Cross training!
