Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.” –James 1:27

Father to the fatherless, defender of widows- this is God, whose dwelling is holy. God places the lonely in families; he sets the prisoners free and gives them joy. But he makes the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.” –Psalm 68:5-6

Adopting in Love by Faith because we are Adopted by Love into Faith:

Mark & fell in love with AnnaBelle Janae (we aren’t allowed to share her Chinese name yet) on Dec. 22, 2012… the very first time we saw her face! Since then we have been praying & trusting God to show us how we can bring her home to be part of our family. It’s not been simple or easy, but few things in this life are. We are an American family of 5, living in Hong Kong, serving the poorest people in this city. As you can imagine, our job is not one that pays a handsome salary… & international adoption is very expensive. Our choice to adopt AnnaBelle has always been one of faith & complete obedience to God. In Dec. when we read the file from the agency, we knew we didn’t have all the funds, so we prayed & prayed asking God what to do. Finally He told us “If I confirm this is MY will for you & that I ALONE will provide everything you need… will you fight for this girl? will you raise her as your own? will you teach her to know & love me?” – We simply said “YES!” (Read how God confirmed his promise for AnnaBelle)

AnnaBelle was born in China in May 2009. Her background story is very vague & all we really know at this point (maybe all we will ever know) is that someone, probably her mother, loved her so much that they wanted to make sure she was well cared for… even if that meant they could no longer do the job themselves. AnnaBelle lived in an orphanage in China for the first 3 years of her life & is now living in a wonderful foster home run by American Christian organization. We are so happy that she’s there! Because of the Hague Adoption rules as well as China’s regulations, we aren’t able to share pictures online yet… but the updates we’ve seen from the foster home show that AnnaBelle is really thriving under the loving care she’s getting in her new home!! {UPDATE 4/9/14 – we just got LOA & can now share pictures! Click here to see the first pics we posted!}

Right now, our biggest concern is getting proper medical care for our daughter in China. Like most Chinese orphans, AnnaBelle has a Special Need (SN) that puts her on a priority listing for adoption. Her diagnosis is OI (osteogenesis imperfecta), also known as Brittle Bone Disease. She does not receive any special for this treatment in China. They simply cannot afford expensive treatments for the vast number of children that need them. We won’t know how severe her OI is until we have her evaluated in the USA, but it’s very likely the most mild form. At the very least, AnnaBelle will need an intravenous medicine that will strengthen her bones. Our goal is to get her home with us just as quickly as possible, so that we can get her started on proper treatment!!!

So when do we get her? Good question!!! International adoption is a long journey of a million piles of paperwork! We have completed all but one final paper (DS-260) at this point. We are in the FINAL waiting stage. When we get the OK to turn in this last form, then we will have less than 2 months to wait for the official “Travel Approval” from China. That’s when they tell us what day we can pick her up!!! – When we go, we must have 100% of our final funds ready to take with us… payments for the government fees & a donation to her orphanage, etc. We have already paid over $35,000 in adoption costs to our agency & other government entities. We still need about $10,000 in order to have absolutely everything covered. So we continue to trust in God’s miraculous provision. He has miraculously provided every penny so far, as well as some wonderful jewelry to sell (Jewelry 4 AnnaBelle) given to us by a generous fellow adoptive parent! We know that we will see God’s miracle of provision once again! He is ALWAYS on time. We can’t wait to share with you how He finishes this homecoming story for our daughter, AnnaBelle Janae!!!

Known by the Father – May 1, 2013

A little girl in China turns 4 today. I wish I could be there to celebrate HER & tell her that she’s beautiful & amazing & full of God’s goodness! But I know God will be with her & whisper His loving words into her ears today & every day. I pray I will see her very soon & hold her in my arms for the first time. I hope it’s before her next birthday… maybe even before next Christmas… I cannot share her name, although it’s pretty just like her smile. I stare at her picture knowing I love her, but not knowing her at all. What’s her favorite color? Which toy does she treasure? How does she like her hair? Will she have a birthday cake today??? So many unknowns… but I am grateful that God knows her. He has always known her.

God’s always known everything about her. He knew her in her mother’s womb where He knit her together. He knew she would be taken to a police station & then to an orphanage when she was barely 2 months old. He knows her name & every hair on her head. He even knows if today is really her birthday… Most of all, He knows how to take care of her & protect her… & He knows how to get us to her, no matter the cost – He has the provision & no matter the obstacle – He makes the way, & He’s always on time! She lives only 6 hours away from us, but it will be months before we will be allowed to meet her. But she is in good hands because her Heavenly Father has never left her alone…

This precious birthday girl has been on God’s heart since before she was born. He has prepared for her a family with 3 brothers, a Daddy & a Mama that already love her. We don’t know her yet, but we’re on our way to bring her home. The journey will be long & uncertain, with ups & downs. We’ve already hit bumps, yet God has provided. I can’t wish her Happy Birthday this year. I don’t even speak her language. But God can & He can speak it. I don’t know her favorite food or the name of her dolly… Or if she even has one. But I hold on to what I do know. God cares for her & has asked us to care too. He has promised to make a way where there seems to be no way. God has never led me where He will not sustain me. Most importantly, I know that God has shown me that sweet 4 year old girl. I don’t know her yet, but I know…

… She is my daughter.

All Christians are adopted into the family of God and freed from the law through Jesus’ Christ’s death on the cross & resurrection. To adopt a child is to follow the lead of God who has adopted so many. We believe that to even consider adoption for your family is a divine thought given by God. There are several examples of adoption in the Bible including Moses & Esther. Adoption of children is a wonderful thing and God directs us to take care of the children & orphans and to welcome them in. There is no better way to care for an orphan (child OR adult) than to adopt him or her into your family & bestow on them the same love, protection, training & inheritance or legacy that you would to your own flesh & blood. -M&J

“Orphans are easier to ignore before you know their names
They are easier to ignore before you see their faces
It is easier to pretend they’re not real
before you hold them in your arms,
But once you do, everything changes.”

– from Radical by David Platt

John 1:12 – But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.

Romans 8:14-16 – For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.

Galatians 4:4-6 – But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.”

James 1:27 – Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.

Psalm 68:5-6 – Father to the fatherless, defender of widows- this is God, whose dwelling is holy. God places the lonely in families; he sets the prisoners free and gives them joy. But he makes the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.

Matthew 18:5 – “And anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf is welcoming me.

Exodus 2:10 – Later, when the boy was older, his mother brought him back to Pharaoh’s daughter, who adopted him as her own son. The princess named him Moses, for she explained, “I lifted him out of the water.”

Esther 2:7 – This man had a very beautiful and lovely young cousin, Hadassah, who was also called Esther. When her father and mother died, Mordecai adopted her into his family and raised her as his own daughter.

Ephesians 3:20-21 – Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or imagine, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
