Hope & Homes: Baja Update

My construction trip in Baja California, Mexico was a fruitful & challenging experience, thank you for your prayers and financial support that allowed me to go. The trip was very successful; our team of 90 people was able to build three homes in the week we spent in Mexico. It was touching to see how grateful the families were when we handed them the keys to their new house. I’m glad that I had the opportunity to be God’s hands and feet by working for and alongside these people to build a home for this family. I have learned that sometimes the people with the least resources are the most generous. The Martinez* family has lived in poverty for years, their 10×10 one room shack, with no indoor plumbing, has housed all 5 of them for the last 2 years. Yet, they purchased & cooked a delicious “Thank You Meal” for the tam working on their house (30 ppl) during the time we were there. Generosity in the midst of poverty. I hope to also live in a way that overcomes my circumstances.

Above is a picture of my team in front of the house we built for the Martinez* family. Their new home is about four times larger than the old shack & has plumbing for a sink in the kitchen (with built in counters) & a shower. (The toilet is in a brand new outhouse, also built by our team.) The home we built also has 2 bedrooms & a living room, as well as electricity/lighting fixtures. Each team member had a different skill set, some built bed frames, others hauled in new mattresses & still others set up lighting, door frames & windows. I mainly helped with framing, roofing & painting. Once we had a paint brush in the hand of each worker (when other projects were done) the walls were finished very quickly. It was great to have a team of variously skilled workers, to provide a comfortable home for our new friends.

On the last day of our trip, Pastor Scott Hagan (our leader) stood in front of the new house & gave a message of hope in JC, which someone translated into Spanish. The entire neighborhood had gathered there to listen. Many of the people responded, and we were privileged to lead several people into the Family. Praise the Lord!!

Thanks to all of you who contributed for allowing me to go to Mexico. Through your gift, you helped build these homes in Baja California and you helped bring hope to people who needed it. #hopeandhomesbaja #epeditionbaja

T w/ P. Scott Hagan in Baja California.

It was inspirational to me that Mr. Martinez* & Pastor Scott Hagan (above with me) worked right along with us.

Only a few of us had the courage to conquer the mountain, but the view at the top was totally worth it.

New Year, New States… New Tires?

We have been a bit busy friends.I’m sure you can tell by the lack of postings here. Sorry!!

kids in GC

We all enjoyed exploring the beautiful Grand Canyon in between our Arizona meetings. (Feb. 2015)

Since October we have survived our first Thanksgiving & Christmas as a family of six, 3-4 broken bones with AnnaBelle (more on ‘Brittle Bone Disease’ another day) & officially racked up over 17,000 miles (across 3 states) with all 6 bodies crammed into our amazing (ever faithful) minivan! I’m writing from Las Vegas today & preparing to send out our next NEWSLETTER. We set out on the road from California over 5 weeks ago. We’ve spent 4 weeks in Nevada, taken a week long drive through Arizona, & we’ve been back in LV for almost a week with at least 1 more to go… for a total of 6 weeks, 11 Community meetings & over 7 meetings with individuals – and now I’m wondering if it’s time for new tires!?!?

Below is a fun video we made to thank all of you for your love & support – after you watch it, be sure to click the link & update your email with us. Then watch for our eNews to come very soon!

Back in the US of A!

Greetings from sunny Roseville, CA! Summer went by fast for the six of us. Everything since May has been a blur. We started with a whirlwind 8 day pack/move back to America, where we hit the ground fast & furious with a week of meetings just 2 days after arrival! Next up was a family cross-country drive to Missouri for a month of strategic training with leadership. Then Joy & I flew back to China in July to pick up our precious Annabelle. (The {5k+1} has finally become the new {6k}!!!) Once back in California, we started our crazy traveling/speaking schedule the next week. Aug. & Sept. have been such a busy & blessed time full of meetings where we get to reconnect with old friends & meet new ones. Father always encourages us through all of you on this journey. We’re excited to see & introduce you to our little Princess Belle before we return to our home in China!!

We will continue traveling & sharing all over the USA for about a year. Our goal is to have our budget at 100% & be ready to return to China by Fall 2014. If you would like to have us speak at your meeting (small or large) please send us an email.

Don’t forget to check out our {prayer} page!

Check our speaking schedule & contact us to book a date!

sit still Mom… just rest

Sometimes I forget to stop & breathe for a while… Do you ever do that? Just run & run until you crash??

Today, I had no choice but to sit still for a bit. All three of our boys are in a Christmas musical this year. I have been sitting here watching, praying & reflecting for almost 5 hours while they rehearse. Ahhh, such a nice break in routine… so why am I still worried about all the things not getting done while I just sit here??? Sigh… praying for all of us busy Mamas that find it hard to rest!!

“Come away by yourselves to a lonely place and rest a while.” -Mark 6:31

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” -Psalm 46:10

While I’m waiting for the guys to finish up, let me share some pics with you from our adventures this week…

Mark took Mr. Cheng, one of our friends living a sub-divided flat, to see his new public housing flat. Afterwards they stopped in to visit Mr. Miu who has already moved in to a flat exactly the same… to get an idea of how it will look/feel with furniture. Here’s the pics. (Story/pics about Mr. Miu’s moving day.)
